NIU's Anderson hopes to play for Iowa State
AMES, Iowa -- Former Northern Illinois guard Darion Anderson is hoping to extend his career at Iowa State.
The Cyclones say Anderson, who scored more than 1,100 points at Northern Illinois, has signed to play for Iowa State in 2010-11.
But Iowa State compliance officer Dustin Gray says Anderson needs a waiver from the NCAA to play next season without sitting out a year as a transfer.
Cyclones officials are confident the NCAA will grant his request.
Anderson redshirted, then played three years at Northern Illinois. His career would be over without a waiver because athletes only have five years to complete four seasons of eligibility.
The NCAA can grant Anderson a waiver if it believes the move to Iowa State is a positive one both academically and in life.
