Wednesday's Fox Valley roundup

The Bartlett softball team inched closer to clinching second place in the Upstate Eight Conference Wednesday with a hard-fought 5-4 win over Streamwood.

The Hawks (23-8 overall) clinched no worse than a tie for second with their fifth straight win and eighth triumph in their last 9 games. They can wrap up second place with a win at Waubonsie Valley today.

Callie Dennison moved to 19-5 in the circle for the season with Wednesday's win. She struck out eight and walked one while allowing just 1 hit in 6 innings of work.

Nicole Beck and Jacki Gulczynski each had doubles for Bartlett.

Julie Ranahan and Julissa Alvarez each drove in runs for the Sabres (7-22, 3-17). Jenna Szabo suffered the loss in the circle. She allowed just 1 earned run as Streamwood committed 5 errors.

Neuqua Valley 7, Larkin 0: Colleen Hohman and Jenna Marsalla each hit home runs for Neuqua Valley as the Wildcats downed Larkin (9-21, 6-12) in the Upstate Eight. Lexi Smithberg, Anna Esterino and Alex Buhrow each had 2 hits for Larkin. Smithberg (2-6) took the loss in the circle.

Cary-Grove 5, Woodstock North 0: The Trojans tied the school record for wins in a season and freshman Lindsay Efflandt won her school record 22nd game with a 1-hitter in this Fox Valley Conference crossover. Abbe Wienckowski was 2-for-3 with a double, triple and 2 RBI and Emma Gaulke had a double and an RBI for Cary-Grove (26-, 14-1). The Trojans have now won 11 straight and 16 of their last 17.

Jacobs 14, Grayslake North 4: Sara Jacobson was 4-for-4 with a double, Kara Arceneaux went 2-for-4 and Marissa Lombardo moved to 12-5 on the season with a 4-hitter as Jacobs (18-11) won this FVC crossover. Lombardo struck out seven and walked two.

CL Central 6, Dundee-Crown 1: Losing pitcher Amanda Eissler had a triple and an RBI for Dundee-Crown (1-26) in this FVC crossover loss.

CL South 9, Grayslake Central 1: Jamie Below went 3-for-3 with 4 RBI and Lauren Swanson was 3-for-3 with 3 RBI as the Gators (13-15) rolled in an FVC crossover. Liz Adams added 2 hits and 2 RBI for CL South. Jackie Wolf was the winning pitcher.

Huntley 8, Woodstock 3: The Red Raiders won their 20th game of the season, knocking out 10 hits in an FVC crossover. Randi Peterson had a home run, Tara Lycos was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI and Karlie Swanson had 2 hits to lead the Huntley offense. Hailey Hanson (1-1) picked up the win in the circle for the Red Raiders (20-10).

Marengo 10, Hampshire 0: Aly Bosley had Hampshire's lone hit in this loss to Big Northern East champ Marengo. Jen Hurst (4-10) took the loss for the Whip-Purs (7-22, 0-8).
