Enjoy Spring Fling at Bonner Farm this weekend
You can celebrate the season on Sunday with a Spring Fling at the Bonner Heritage Farm near Lindenhurst.
The all-ages event will feature wagon rides, crafts, a petting zoo and other attractions. It will run from noon to 4 p.m. at the farm, which is part of the Lake County Forest Preserve District system.
Admission is $3 for anyone, regardless of residency. Advanced registration is not required.
Located on Country Place near Sand Lake Road, the Bonner Heritage Farm was a working farm founded in 1842 by Scottish immigrants. In 1995, a descendant of the original family donated an 8-acre cluster of buildings to the forest district, and officials use the property to teach people about the county's agricultural roots.
The Spring Fling isn't the only public event at Bonner Farm next week. On Wednesday, students who are being home-schooled can visit the farm in a special agricultural program.
The event, set to run from 10 a.m. to noon, will feature a variety of hands-on activities. Kids will raise a barn, learn where food comes from and complete crafts to take home.
Admission is $3 for children who are Lake County residents or $5 for children who live in other counties. Attendees must be between ages 5 and 12, and they must be accompanied by adults.
Adults get in free for this event, regardless of where they live.
Register for the home schooling event online at lcfpd.org or by calling (847) 968-3321. The registration deadline is Tuesday, May 25.
