Dundee-Crown to induct 6 into Hall of Fame

The Dundee-Crown Athletic Hall of Fame voted to induct six new members at its meeting Tuesday night.

The Hall of Fame dinner and induction ceremony will be held on Sept. 11 at the Gold Club of Illinois in Algonquin, beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The six new inductees are:

Scott Benton: A 1995 Dundee-Crown grad, Benton led the state in rushing his senior year before going on to Yale University where he was a three-year football letter winner and a two-year starter on defense. His senior year at Yale he won the prestigious Chester J. Laroche Award, which is given to the senior whose character and academic talents has given the most to Yale.

Hank Faulkner: A 1984 D-C grad, Faulkner participated in baseball, basketball, football and cross country. In baseball he was a two-time all-conference selection who held 13 Chargers records when he graduated. He went on to play at Judson University where he was a two-time team MVP. He was then an assistant coach on D-C's 2001 and 2007 Elite Eight teams and helped coach five regional champions as well as six Fox Valley Conference titles.

Jeff Lange: A 1967 Dundee High School graduate, Lange placed second in both the district and conference golf tournaments his senior year and was also a two-year basketball letter winner for the Cardunals. He went on to play both sports collegiately at Elgin Community College, where he was the conference golf tournament champion in 1968 and an all-conference basketball player in 1968-69. He finished his college golf career at Columbus College in Georgia and then was assistant pro at Elgin Country Club for eight years. He set course records at both Randall Oaks and Bonnie Dundee golf courses.

Colon Kelly: A 1983 Dundee alum, Kelly was a two-time all-conference baseball player who led the FVC in batting average his junior and senior years. He was also a three-year basketball player and was all-conference his senior year. He went on to play baseball at Missouri Southern State where he was a four-year all-conference performer and where he still holds four career records.

Art Melahn: A 1938 Dundee grad, Melahn helped lead the Cardunals to the 1938 IHSA state basketball championship. He was the fifth leading scorer in the state tournament and was voted to the all-tournament team.

Stephanie Miller-Nickerson: A 1984 D-C grad, Miller-Nickerson was a three-sport athlete for all four of her high school years, participating in basketball, tennis and softball. She was a four-year letter winner and helped the Chargers reach the 1984 Elite Eight in basketball. She was also an all-conference softball player and in tennis had a career record of 54-14 playing No. 1 singles and doubles. A member of the National Honor Society, she went on to play basketball at the University of Northern Iowa.
