Boating restrictions lifted for Fox River, Chain

High water restrictions placed on the Chain O' Lakes and the upper Fox River have been lifted by the Fox Waterway Agency, officials said Wednesday.

Officials announced they have determined that water levels on the Chain and river between Pistakee Lake and the Bolger-Stratton Lock and Dam have decreased enough to lift the no wake restriction on boating.

The lakes and upper river are now open for all boating.

The lower river between the dam in McHenry to the Algonquin Dam remains no wake. This means boats traveling in that area are not allowed to go faster than 5 mph.

Despite the restrictions being lifted, the Fox Waterway Agency cautions that boaters should watch for floating debris and other navigational hazards that could have been dislodged during the high water.

Crews are actively patrolling the system for debris and other obstructions in preparation for boating season.

Anyone in need of assistance should contact the Fox Waterway Agency at (847) 587-8540.
