No thanks to just-say-no Congress

The latest AARP Bulletin offers an 8-page feature called "What's In It For You?" It analyzes in detail how the new health care legislation will affect those now uninsured, moderate and low income people, seniors on Medicare, doctors and others.

One pertinent note is that the legislation was backed by both the American Hospital Association and the American Medical Association. But the most striking fact mentioned is that members of Congress will be required to buy health plans through the state-run insurance exchanges that will begin in 2014. Clearly, this is in response to long-standing protests of inequality from irate Republicans, Democrats and Independents alike.

But it should be noted that this much-desired change came about no thanks to the "Just say no" Republicans in Congress.
