Kagan brings gender balance

Elena Kagan will enhance her seat in the Supreme Court. Her qualifications, experience, understanding of the law, and willingness to work across political boundaries speak for themselves.

I would like to address another issue. It is time our Supreme Court have a greater balance of power in our representation. Of our population and the great minds of the day, fifty percent are women.

With issues of such gravity before them, surely our Supreme Court needs the wisdom, compassion, and justice imparted by both genders.

We all need to feel that there is someone on the bench who sees life from a viewpoint that we understand. The Supreme Court's decisions affect all of us, hence its composition should reflect all of us.

Elena Kagan's appointment will take us one step closer to said goal.
