Join summer events to clean up village

On behalf of the village of West Dundee, I would like to express the sincere appreciation for the community's participation in the West Dundee's first Earth Day Celebration on April 24.

Though it was a rainy Saturday morning, the community came together to work toward the common goal of improving the look of West Dundee's Riverwalk for all to enjoy. Area businesses stepped-up to help out through the donation of goods: Aspen Valley Landscaping, Home Depot, and McDonald's.

Midwest Groundcovers in St. Charles donated over 1,200 plants that were added to the riverwalk, as were private landscaping donations by residents. More than six trucks of weeds and debris were hauled away. More than 53 volunteers took part in the event, including service clubs from Dundee-Crown and Jacobs high schools, as well as area friends and residents.

Special thanks go to West Dundee residents Kim Tibbetts and Herman Tiedeman for their considerable time and expertise donated to the effort, and to Gary Swick for his participation.

On the Earth Day website, the text speaks of "A Billion Acts of Green - mobilizing the power of people to create change by taking small steps that add up to an enormous collective action." Through their participation in the Earth Day project our residents make West Dundee a great place to live.

To continue the work that has begun, two additional Riverwalk gardening days are scheduled for June 26 and Aug. 28 from 8:30 a.m. to noon, rain or shine.

To volunteer or find more information, visit wdundee.org or call village hall at (847) 551-3800. We invite all to participate in this community service opportunity.
