Kamara, Wizards rally to tie Fire

KANSAS CITY, Kan. - Kei Kamara, coming off a whiff from point-blank range that cost Kansas City a victory in its last home game, scored 2 second-half goals to help the Wizards tie the Chicago Fire 2-2 on Saturday night.

The Wizards trailed 2-0 after Brian McBride's goal in the 48th minute, but Kamara made it 2-1 in the 50th and pulled Kansas City even in the 89th.

With an open goalmouth on a wet field and no one near him, Kamara's second goal was eerily similar to the one he missed in a 0-0 tie with Los Angeles on April 24. This time, Kamara measured his steps and tapped the ball in for his fifth goal of the year.

Julio Martinez scored his first Major League Soccer goal in the 14th minute for the Fire (2-3-3) which has lost only once in its last five matches. Kansas City (2-3-2) is winless in its last five but still unbeaten in four home games.

The Wizards had several first-half scoring chances but but couldn't convert any of them. They got off five shots in a 10-second span in the 25th minute, but Andrew Dykstra saved three of them and defenders blocked the other two. Davy Arnaud appeared to equalize for Kansas City in first-half stoppage time, but the goal was disallowed because Fire defender Wilman Conde was down in the penalty area.
