Pedestrian killed after being hit by Metra train
A northbound Metra train struck and killed a pedestrian about 3 p.m. Friday near Devon Avenue and Caldwell Road in Chicago.
Metra spokesman Michael Gillis said the incident occurred by the Edgebrook stop along the Milwaukee District North Line. The train originated at Union Station and was supposed to travel to Fox Lake, then turn back and return to downtown Chicago, he said.
Suburban stops on the line include Grayslake, Libertyville, Lake Forest and Deerfield.
The Cook County medical examiner's office said the victim was a man in his 70s, but officials were withholding his name pending notification of family.
