Man ejected from truck in morning crash now stable

A 47-year-old Naperville man who was ejected from his delivery truck Friday morning after his vehicle crashed into an SUV in unincorporated Des Plaines is now in stable condition at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, authorities said.

The two-car accident occurred at 10:23 a.m. near the 500 block of Touhy Avenue, west of Elmhurst Road.

The delivery truck was pulling out of a parking lot on the south side of Touhy Avenue (also known as Higgins Road there) when it struck the Lexus SUV going eastbound on Touhy, according to officials.

The truck driver was ejected from the vehicle, while the truck continued west, landing about 100 feet away from the point of impact on the westbound lanes of Touhy Avenue.

The impact caused the Lexus to roll over, Elk Grove Township Fire Chief Michael Nelson said.

The delivery truck driver suffered chest and head injuries and was semiconscious at the time ambulances arrived, Nelson said.

"We don't know if he was wearing a seat belt," Nelson said. "There is no door on the driver's side. It's a sliding door on the passenger side."

The male driver of the SUV, also in his mid-40s, was transported with facial injuries by an Elk Grove Village ambulance to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village.

The roof of the SUV had caved in and both air bags deployed, Nelson said.
