Carpentersville man charged with drug, weapons offenses

A Carpentersville man was arrested on drug and weapons charges Thursday after police said they found marijuana, a gun and bullets inside the house he shares with his parents and two brothers.

Police executed a search warrant at 9:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2000 block of Berkshire Circle, turning up a loaded .22-caliber pistol, 69 .22-caliber bullets and 23.5 grams of marijuana packaged in clear plastic bags, said Cmdr. Timothy Bosshart.

Jesse Saavedra, 20, of the same address, was charged with unlawful possession of marijuana with intent to deliver, unlawful possession of marijuana, unlawful possession of a firearm without a Firearm Owners Identification card and unlawful possession of ammunition without a FOID card.

During his Friday morning bond hearing, Saavedra at first told Kane County Judge Bruce W. Lester that the gun wasn't loaded and that it wasn't his. Upon further questioning, Saavedra admitted the gun was loaded and that he used it for "protection," but still denied that it belonged to him.

"You guys found it on me, I guess it's my gun now," Saavedra said.

Lester set his bond at $25,000 and Saavedra is due back in court May 21 at the Kane County Judicial Center.

If found guilty of the most serious offense, the drug delivery charge, Saavedra could spend up to three years in prison.
