Golf outing to remember Arlington Heights teen

When Rolling Meadows High School senior Megan Baumgartner committed suicide in 2007, her family relied on support from a group called Loving Outreach to Survivors of Suicide.

Now, the family is giving back to LOSS with its 3rd annual Remembering Megan 2010 Golf Outing Saturday, May 15 at the Old Orchard Country Club in Mount Prospect.

All of the proceeds will be donated to LOSS, which Baumgartner's family members said helped them through their darkest hours with programs and individual and group counseling - all at no cost.

"I don't know how we'd have gotten through it without them," said Megan's brother, Mike Lemancik of Arlington Heights. "It was, and still is, a terribly shocking event in my family's life."

Tickets for golf and dinner are $110 per person, and include 18 holes of golf, a cart, a buffet dinner and a raffle for a 50" high-definition television. Tickets for the raffle are only $5 each, and it's not necessary to be present to win.

Megan Baumgartner, who lived in Arlington Heights, was well-liked and active at school but suffered silently from depression, Lemancik said.

"It's an illness. Many people don't realize that," Lemancik said. "(Megan) was on the golf team, and loved golf, so we thought this would be a nice thing ... a nice way to raise money for LOSS."
