Owens returns to Notre Dame as associate coach

SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- Carol Owens is returning to Notre Dame as associate women's basketball coach after resigning last month following five seasons as the head coach at Northern Illinois.

Owens replaces Angie Potthoff, who has been named Notre Dame's associate director for women's basketball operations and technology. Owens said she was seeking a "more balanced life" when she resigned from Northern Illinois.

Owens posted a 66-81 record in five seasons at Northern Illinois, going 19-12 in her second season there. The Huskies finished 10-19 this past season, including 4-12 in the Mid-American Conference.

Owens will work with Notre Dame's post players and assist with recruiting. She was an assistant coach at Notre Dame during 1995-2005.
