Kitchen fire damages Lombard home; one minor injuries
A kitchen fire Tuesday in a Lombard house caused as much as $100,000 damage and resulted in one minor injury, authorities said.
The resident of the home on the 21W200 block of 22nd Street called the Lombard Fire Department at 2 a.m. to report the blaze.
"All of the residents were able to exit the house safely," Battalion Chief Ron Rakosnik said in a news release. "But there was significant structural damage to the kitchen and smoke damage throughout the upstairs of the split-level home."
One resident was treated at the scene for a minor burn to his right hand. No other injuries were reported.
Damage to the home is estimated at between $80,000 and $100,000. The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said.
The home's smoke detectors did not have batteries, so it was fortunate that someone noticed the fire in time for everyone to escape, authorities said.
