Hanover Park approves plans for car dealership

Plans for an untraditional car dealership have been approved in Hanover Park.

Skyline Motors LLC, to be located in a vacant building at the northwest corner of Army Trail and County Farm roads, will sell pre-owned luxury vehicles purchased from state licensed auctions, according to village documents.

The board of trustees last week by a 5-0 vote approved the special use allowing for a dealership, with Trustee Toni Carter abstaining.

Attorney Christopher Dunsing, representing the business owners, said the new business wouldn't be a traditional auto dealership with the usual showroom.

Instead, the operators will look for specific high-end cars at auctions on behalf of potential buyers seeking specific makes, models and years. The vehicles will be presented to those buyers quickly in case they need to be returned to the auction.

"It is very much a new concept," Dunsing said. "It is a fast-paced process."

Since the purchases are made at the behest of the buyer, the owners don't foresee having more than two to four vehicles stored on the dealership property at a time.

Dunsing said no body or repair work will be done on-site, and that because it is difficult to maneuver around the property, the owners will likely meet large vehicle carriers at another location.

As part of the village's approval, outdoor sales, displays and storage of materials and vehicles won't be allowed.

Community Development Director Patrick Grill said it's unclear exactly when the dealership will open because the owners still have to get licensed by the state and apply for building permits in order to increase the size of the building's doors.

The owners did not respond to requests for comment.
