Why I want to recall Trustee Lisa Stone

After reading Trustee Lisa Stone's comments in the May 3 Daily Herald article on our recall rally, I must shed additional light on this story. Stone stated the people behind the recall effort are the same people that didn't want her to win in the first place.

That is only partially true. Many of us did not support Beverly Sussman but we are not attempting to recall her because she has proved herself worthy of her position.

Several of (Stone's) own supporters now support her recall ... (they) got something very different from what they expected in a public official, and are now fearful of the negative impact her actions may have on Buffalo Grove.

Stone stated a recall should be the result of illegal actions. I believe jail time should be the result of any illegal action.

Recall should be the result of putting your village at risk of legal action, wasting taxpayer's money by grandstanding at board meetings, drawing out meetings by a lack of understanding or outright rejection of Robert's Rules of Order, berating other board members, staff and at least one resident, making unsubstantiated claims of malfeasance, and/or filing baseless police reports against perceived political foes.

She states that a recall "undermines the election." Elections are already undermined by low turnout and voters that rely on sound bites or biased coverage to make their decisions instead of doing due diligence.

Local politics has a much more direct impact on citizens than actions at the state or federal level. That is the reason citizens should not have to wait three or four years to correct their mistakes.

I encourage any politician to "challenge the establishment and status quo" provided it is done within the limits defined for that office. My advice, though, is thoroughly investigate both sides of an issue, use logic and facts instead of emotion, and rhetoric to effectively debate and make decisions.

It seems to me you have been using the media to portray yourself as "Erin Brockovich" but to many of us you are simply coming across as one of the "Mean Girls."
