Make a day of helping to spruce up Fox River

Batavians for a Healthy River is recruiting volunteers for a Fox River Cleanup in Batavia from 8:30 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 15. The group will meet at the parking lot on Route 25 by Clark Island and the Skate Park. The Batavia Park District and the city will be assisting with the cleanup and restoration efforts. This cleanup will focus on shoreline and river cleanup. Volunteers should dress appropriately and bring work gloves. Trash bags will be provided. A few canoes are needed and volunteers experienced in removal of trash from the river. Those with waders should bring them.

All Batavia citizens are invited to volunteer for this effort. Join them on May 15 to make this a true community event for the betterment of the environment and the city. The more volunteers, the more extensive and meaningful will be the restoration accomplishment. Volunteers interested in participating in the cleanup can just show up on May 15. However, those with questions or any who are organizing small groups to participate can better assist in the planning by contacting Jessi DeMartini at (630) 871-7548.

All participants will be asked to sign a waiver form. All children must be accompanied by a parent or supervising adult and must have a waiver form signed by a parent or guardian. For information and to obtain a waiver in advance, visit the Batavians for a Healthy River Web site at www.bataviansforahealthyriver.org.
