Lakes speeds to Hoffman Estates title

Lakes' boys track and field team captured its fourth invitational championship of the season Saturday.

Despite 25-mph winds and near-40-degree conditions, the Eagles piled up 171 points at Hoffman Estates to easily outdistance the host Hawks (126) in the six-team Pete Reiff invite.

Marcell KirkmanBey ran a 14.7 to win the 110-meter high hurdles for Lakes, while John Pfeiffer finished first in the both shot put (53-1) and discus (141-4) for the Eagles. Mike Beckman had a huge day, too, speeding to victory in both the 100 (10.91) and 200 (24.0) dashes. He also ran on the winning 400 relay (45.1).

Other big efforts for Lakes came from Mike Pfeiffer (400 and 800 relays), Tyler Swindle, Donte Arnold, Brandon Washington, Roland Luke and Nick Tognocchi.
