Hampshire Frank Lloyd Wright home to house music booster benefit
The community is invited to an open house event to benefit the Central Music Boosters from 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 16, at the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Muirhead Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast, 42W814 Rohrsen Road, Hampshire.
The Muirhead family was among the first settlers in Kane County, establishing a farmstead on its current site in 1860. By the late 1940s, then owners Robert and Elizabeth Muirhead, felt they had outgrown the original farmhouse and wanted something better suited for their growing family of five children.
The result was a Usonian-style house designed by Wright. The Muirhead house remains in the family today and has recently undergone extensive restoration.
In addition, the surrounding 757 acres of farmland is also being restored. Purchased by the Kane County Forest Preserve, the land is now being redeveloped with native prairie wildflowers and grasses and a 7-mile trail loop for use by walkers, bicyclists and horse enthusiasts.
All proceeds go directly to support the Central Music Boosters, a nonprofit group that provides funding for Burlington Central Schools' performing arts programs. House tours, entertainment and refreshments will be offered.
Admission is $20 per person at the event. Registration is recommended. To register, call the Muirhead Farmhouse at (847) 464-5224.
