Man is free to explore creation
First, we need to thank the Daily Herald for being open to an active exchange of ideas. Unfortunately, there is not enough reporting of the breakthroughs in creation science, though it is well documented by several scientifically rigorous organizations, but suppressed by most popular media as well as censored by an elitist academia.
This was dramatically documented in Ben Stein's movie Expelled. Joe Bauer's position (April 24 Fence Post) represents the result of our secular media and educational system that has embraced evolution and suppresses research they disagree with. Having science degrees, our respect for the scientific method and exploratory science has been behind our concern about the direction some scientists seem to be going to deny the existence of God. Fortunately, many creation organizations have given us ample resources to keep our science complete and credible as well as aware of the information being propounded by the secular scientific community in the past 50-plus years.
The basic fact to understand in the study of origins is that no one was there to record the events. We are therefore dependent on supernatural sources to obtain the all-important source documents. Fortunately, God is self-revealing, both in his word and in his creation. Psalm 19 is a beautiful tribute to the God of creation. Romans 1:18 to 20 is more blunt, telling "of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness." But man is free to explore the creation and examine the evidence.
Our preconceptions in viewing the evidence cause us to make flawed assumptions that must be rigorously examined to see if the data matches our conclusions: e.g. evolution requires long periods of time to achieve its conclusions regarding the fossil record. But the worldwide catastrophic flood of Noah produced the fossil layers in a relatively short period of time.
