District gave plenty of notice
A recent Letter to the Editor from Mr. Jack McCabe again falsely reported information regarding the Batavia public schools. While I have not met Mr. McCabe, nor has he requested information from my office, his description of the Batavia public schools strategic planning survey is inaccurate.
This community survey recently conducted by the Batavia public schools was announced on our Web site, sent to over 4,100 community members and parents via our electronic messenger service and distributed by the Batavia Chamber of Commerce to all its members. In addition, the survey was announced at our regular board meetings.
It is unfortunate that of the three newspapers that were sent the news release, only the Daily Herald chose to print it.
I am pleased to report that over 1,300 people completed the survey and 30 percent of participants identified themselves as community members. The administration and board of education will use this data to review and realign its strategic priorities. It saddens me that the efforts and attempts to seek public input can be misconstrued by a few.
There is a commitment from the board of education and administration to plan strategically and involve the community. In the future, I hope Mr. McCabe will contact my office for factual information regarding the Batavia public schools.
