Garbage the topic in Arlington Heights

Garbage is again on the agenda for the Arlington Heights Village Board at 7:30 p.m. Monday.

The board will hear the results of surveys a private company conducted about solid waste pickup at single-family homes.

About 2,000 of 3,000 surveys sent to residents of single-family homes were returned to Public Research Group of Naperville. In addition, more than 200 people were surveyed by telephone and 700 responded online at the village's website.

Village Manager Bill Dixon said he could not go into detail on the report before the meeting.

"There are some areas where the public seems to be very clear on what they do and don't want, and areas where they are divided," he said.

The village's contract with Groot Industries Inc. of Elk Grove Village expires March 31.

Issues include whether twice-a-week collections will continue and if totes on wheels will be used or households will continue to put out plastic bags.

The village board traditionally does not designate a time for public comment at committee of the whole meetings, but can allow remarks or questions from citizens at trustees' discretion.
