United Way 5K goal: healthy living

United Way of the DuPage Area will host its first-ever LIVE UNITED 5K Run/Walk to promote health and wellness, as well as bring families and companies together for a fun outdoor event at Cantigny Park in Wheaton.

The benefit of this location is that there is no danger of automobile traffic in this outdoor setting. In addition, families can participate in the run/walk and then stay for the day and enjoy Cantigny's beautiful grounds, museums, restaurants and golf course. For the competitive, there will be awards in 14 age groups, so everyone has a chance to earn a medal.

As United Way concentrates on health and wellness in the coming year, the LIVE UNITED 5K Run/Walk is a great way to kick off a fun and active summer. All money raised from this event will be allocated to health and wellness programs throughout the DuPage area.

Whether you and your family runs or walks this 5K, it is a great way to promote healthy living. Teaching your kids now that running/walking and visiting parks are fun ways to spend time together will stay with them a lifetime.

I hope to see you at the LIVE UNITED 5K at 8 a.m. May 8. You can register and get more information and directions to Cantigny by visiting www.uwdupage.org/live-united-5k or call (630) 645-6341.
