OfficeMax to shut call center, cut 250 jobs

CASPER, Wyo. -- OfficeMax plans to close its Casper call center and terminate the facility's 250 employees.

Spokeswoman Jennifer Rook says the company notified employees Thursday of the July 30 closure. The Naperville-based office supplies retailer has operated the Casper facility since 1998.

Rook says more than 60 percent of the 250 employees hold full-time positions. Severance packages and career service counseling will be available to eligible employees.

The Casper facility is one of four OfficeMax call centers in the United States that handle customer inquiries. The others -- in Bristol, Va., Peru, Ill., and Ottawa, Ill. -- will remain open.

Rook says the decision was driven by operating infrastructure costs.
