Iowa makes slight profit from Orange Bowl
IOWA CITY, Iowa -- The University of Iowa took home about $55,000 for the football team's January trip to the Orange Bowl.
Documents released by the school Wednesday say Iowa spent nearly $1.9 million during the trip, but received $1.95 million for playing the game.
Iowa brought 674 people to the Orange Bowl, which was played on Jan. 5 in Miami. The majority of the school's expenses went to transportation, meals and lodging.
The athletic department rang up $1.35 million in expenses, including about $450,000 to bring the marching band.
Documents also say the school was left with 3,175 unsold tickets out of its allotment of 17,500.
Iowa won the game over Georgia Tech 24-14.
The remaining funds go back to the athletic department.
