Enforce carry-on baggage rules

As a very frequent flier, I appreciate the airlines' decision to not charge for carry-on baggage. However, I believe the airlines should speak up about what I believe is the real reason for this rumor.

The existing carry-on luggage rules need to be enforced. There are far too many individuals that bring on one or two bags that exceed reasonable size. The occurrences of this went up when the charges for check-in luggage started.

These passengers are clearly avoiding the check-in baggage fees by carrying on large bags knowing they will not fit and that the larger of the two pieces will inevitably be "gate side checked" at the bottom of the boarding ramp. These bags then have to be tagged and lugged down the outside stairs of the Jetway by ground crew that could instead be preparing the plane for an on-time and cost effective departure.

Those who violate the carry-on baggage size limits should be charged double the check-in baggage fee for each offending piece.

Enforce the existing carry on baggage rules and you could reduce the checked baggage fees, use it as a competitive advantage and operate in a timelier and safer fashion.
