Police investigate Kaneville burglaries

Kane County sheriff's police are investigating a recent burglary spree in Kaneville Township.

Lt. Pat Gengler said Tuesday at least 12 burglaries took place late Thursday or early Friday in the area of Elm and Locust streets, south of Main Street. The stolen property included a pair of lawn mowers, a go-kart, tools, tires and other items removed mostly from trailers and sheds that were either broken into or unlocked.

"A lot of the victims' properties backed up to each other," Gengler said. "It looks like the majority of it occurred in the early morning hours, when most people are asleep."

Police are asking the public to contact the sheriff's investigative division at (630) 232-6840 with additional burglary reports or information on any suspicious activity seen in the area. Authorities also are increasing vigilance in the area and reaching out to other police agencies for reports of similar activity.

Gengler said the burglaries mostly appeared to be crimes of opportunity, and police suspect at least two people were involved because of the weight of some of the stolen items.

"We're absolutely looking at this as all of it being related," he said. "We're sifting through information as it comes in."
