Misericordia thanks volunteers, donors

There is a sports adage that speaks to the strength of the human spirit: "When the going gets tough, the tough get going".

The caring citizens of Palatine and neighboring areas certainly showed how "tough" they are in these economically difficult times. They recognized the increasing need to help those less fortunate. Their donations to this year's Misericordia Candy Days collections rose substantially from last year, showing the willingness to share their good fortune with others.

The residents, staff and collection volunteers wish to express their gratitude to all our friends who participated. Please know that your money goes directly into programs that assist over 500 children and adults grow in their fundamental skills while adding a greater dignity to their lives.

A humble and loving Thank You to each one of you.

Our volunteers, many involving entire families, again have earned our great appreciation and admiration. A number have been with us for over 10 years and always return with a smile on their faces and love in their hearts.

The organizational leadership from the staff and friends of the Twice Blest Thrift Shop is apparent in the success of the drive and we sincerely thank them for their time and energy.

Another group of volunteers needs to be highlighted because they are the leaders of tomorrow and their efforts today helped our work continue to grow. These are the bright, energetic students from Fremd, Palatine and St. Viator high schools.

With them we can now have broader coverage in stores and malls, increasing our source of funds. The young adults bring a positive, fun-loving face to volunteering that is contagious. While they are having fun and doing charitable work many of them are also gaining credit toward their Community Service requirement.

Hats off to all of you. We welcome you and ALL of our wonderful volunteers back next year.

Thank you again for your support. We'll be back next year in our red and white vests and smiling faces. We hope you will come see us again.
