Teachers are worth what they make

This is in response to Mr. Miller's letter saying teachers are overpaid for sitting on their butts. It is obvious that he has not spent any time in schools observing working teachers.

I have been involved with our school district for many years in both paid and volunteer support positions. Teachers do not just work the school hours. They arrive early and many of them stay several hours after the students have left.

They have hours of paperwork and preparation outside of the classroom time. In addition, they have to deal with behavioral problems and learning disabilities.

They work many evenings for assemblies, special projects & parent conferences. It is more likely the grade schoolteacher, not the college professor, who inspires children to pursue their dreams.

My son is a teacher and my daughter is currently majoring in elementary education. I am hoping that the lawmakers will resolve the education dilemma to allow teachers to continue their great contributions to our children.

Mr. Miller, you are incorrect in thinking that teachers are getting over $100,000 in pensions. It is the administrators making that kind of money. The teachers are not the ones stealing from the taxpayers. The lawmakers are stealing from our children.
