Quinn not worried about Cohen in gov.'s race
CHICAGO -- Gov. Pat Quinn says he's not worried pawn broker Scott Lee Cohen might try a run for governor as an independent.
Cohen is considering a bid after quitting as the Democratic nominee in the lieutenant governor's race amid questions about his past, including accusations he held a knife to his girlfriend's throat. Cohen has denied that.
Quinn says it's a free country and Cohen is welcome to try to collect the necessary signatures to get on the ballot. The Chicago Democrat says he's not worried Cohen could siphon away some of his support.
Quinn is battling state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington for a full four-year term as governor. Quinn replaced the ousted Rod Blagojevich last year after he was arrested on federal corruption charges.
