Blagojevich aide pleads guilty
One of ousted Gov. Rod Blagojevich's former top aides has pleaded guilty to charges that accuse him of conspiring to pressure a racetrack owner for campaign money in exchange for approval of legislation favoring the racing industry.
Former chief of staff Alonzo Monk's guilty plea in federal court on Friday was largely a formality. He had already pleaded guilty to such a charge, but he had to do it again because a rewritten version of the indictment -- technically a whole new set of charges -- is now before the court.
Blagojevich's lawyers are due in court later in the day. The former governor has pleaded not guilty to trying to sell or trade President Barack Obama's former U.S. Senate seat and other charges.
