Party Saturday at new firehouse on Lake Marian Road

The village of Carpentersville and the fire department will throw a party this weekend to celebrate the reopening and dedication of the newly upgraded Fire Station #2 at 305 Lake Marian Road on the village's east side.

Fire Chief John Schuldt is inviting everyone to take part in the celebratory events starting at 11 a.m., Saturday, May 1, with an open house where visitors can tour the expanded facility. The village spent almost $2.2 million on adding 2,100-square-feet of space. The renovation and expansion includes a workout room, additional bathrooms and meeting space for staff.

Work also included correcting structural deficiencies including large cracks that had formed from shifting. The building, which had never been renovated in more than 40 years, is the last of the village's three fire department facilities to get a makeover.

Also built in 1959, Fire Station No. 1 at 213 Spring St. in the Old Town neighborhood underwent remodeling in 2000. The village's third station at 5000 Sleepy Hollow Road was built on the west side in 2001.

The 4,500-square-foot Fire Station 2 was built to store equipment and lacked space for fire department personnel. But as the village grew and additional fire crews were needed, the fire station became a manned station. Now, the station houses fire firefighters and a battalion chief 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Before the renovation, the station had four beds in a cramped space, as well as one bathroom facility for men and one for women. A sewer floor drain was next to one of the beds

Village officials will be on hand for the dedication at noon. Parking will be available in the open field east of the fire station.
