Accessible metal done right by Bullet

Metal music fans have so many genres and sub-genres to choose from, it's hard to decide where Bullet For My Valentine fits in with their its album, "Fever." Thankfully, this Welsh band has a great sound for several breeds of metalheads.

The nice thing about "Fever" is that you can understand the lyrics. That's not always of prime concern for many of their peers. While it's certainly not crucial for success in this musical genre, it's nice to know what's tearing the lads up inside.

Most of the songs are fashioned around a blistering drum attack, tight power chords and some occasional old school-styled, soaring guitar solos.

The title track "Fever" is the definition of aggression. "It's hot as hell in here, everybody wants to lose control/ The music's turned up loud, the lights are turned down low," lead singer Matthew Tuck sings. A female is about to take the stage and Tuck isn't sure he can weather the sexual storm.

Tuck's strong vocals nicely complement the often frenetic pace driven by drummer Michael "Moose" Thomas. It's hard to find a weak spot of this seriously solid release.

CHECK IT OUT: On "A Place Where You Belong," the band slows down to deliver a metal power ballad. A suicide has occurred, and the sad note left behind is sung in fine heartfelt fashion by Tuck. Bullet For My Valentine gets high marks for handling the subject tastefully.
