Butler showed it can play with big boys
I am writing in regards to the article entitled, "Despite playing in Horizon League, don't call Butler a midmajor," in the April 4 sports section of the Daily Herald.
Throughout my life, I have been a very big college basketball fan. This year, I have become especially enamored with the Butler Bulldogs. I am very realized that somebody realizes that Butler is not a true "midmajor." This Butler team is good and would be a top team in the major conferences.
Butler was ranked the No. 8 team in the nation in the coaches poll entering the NCAA tournament. Only two of the teams they have beaten were ranked higher than them - Syracuse (4) and Kansas State (7). The No. 8 team in the country beating the No. 4 in the country would not even be defined as an upset.
Make no mistake about it; Butler can play with the big boys. After beating Top 25 teams Northwestern, UCLA and Ohio State during the regular season, Butler has proved to us all that they are no a midmajor but a major powerhouse.
The fact that Butler is not a true midmajor takes nothing away from what it has accomplished. Butler won 25 consecutive games and beat several Top 25 teams. The Bulldogs have proved to the nation they are the real deal.
