Naperville man picks up bucket of charges in one busy night

Carl Gunther has a date with a judge after police charged him with numerous offenses over four hours late last week, Naperville Cmdr. Mike Anders said Monday.

Gunther, 25, of Naperville, first was arrested after picking arguments late Wednesday with staff members of the Crosstown Pub at 909 E. Ogden Ave., Anders said.

Police said Gunther became argumentative with employees who refused to serve him because he appeared intoxicated.

Police were called when Gunther refused to leave. When officers learned Gunther drove himself to the tavern, they charged him with drunken driving, Anders said.

At that point, police searched Gunther's vehicle and discovered a pipe that had been used to smoke cannabis, Anders said. He was then charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gunther was taken to the police station for booking, Anders said, where he got into a scuffle with the officer who tried to fingerprint him. That led to a charge of resisting a peace officer.

Then, after being placed in a cell, Gunther urinated on the floor, resulting in another citation.

But it still didn't end there.

After posting bail, Gunther arranged for a taxi to pick him up at the police station and drive him home to the 100 block of Jane Avenue.

En route, police said Gunther jumped out of the vehicle at the corner of Chicago Avenue and Pembroke Road and refused to pay the driver the $14 fare.

The driver called police, who tracked Gunther down and charged him with theft of labor or services.

To compound matters, Anders said Gunther violated the bail he posted for the other charges when he broke another law while out on bail.

Police eventually took Gunther to DuPage County jail where he remains on bond.

Gunther is scheduled to be arraigned May 24 in DuPage County Circuit Court.
