Cavs provide lesson off court: patience
The Bulls probably should take a look at Cleveland's lineup before they set out to enhance the roster this summer through three agency.
The lesson is patience. The Cavaliers acquired three current starters - Mo Williams, Shaquille O'Neal and Antawn Jamison - for practically nothing in return. All Jamison did was score 24 points Sunday.
The complete rundown is ridiculous. Cleveland traded away Damon Jones and Joe Smith to get Williams from the Bucks in a three-team deal. The 6-foot-1 guard averaged 15.8 points this season.
O'Neal came to town from Phoenix for Ben Wallace and Sasha Pavlovic. Whether Shaq helps a lot or a little during the playoffs, the price made him was a low-risk proposition.
Then in February the Cavs picked up Jamison at a Washington yard sale. The cost was a future first-round pick, the rights to a past second-round pick and center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, who was back in Cleveland 30 days later after a contract buyout.
The Bulls have improvements in mind this summer. They have two nice pieces for the future in Derrick Rose and Joakim Noah and are hoping to add another star-caliber player in free agency.
Beyond that, the Bulls shouldn't be eager to keep adding players. Waiting for a good value is often what puts NBA teams over the top. As examples, just think of Pau Gasol with the Lakers and Rasheed Wallace in Detroit.
