Troubled by challenge to Dist. 15 petitions
Responding to an article in your paper regarding the School District 15 bond issue, I drove to the Palatine Post Office in order to sign the petition which asked that the bond issue be put up for a vote in November.
There was one young lady standing outside the Post Office gathering signatures. Asked if this was the bond petition mentioned in the Herald, she said yes. I signed it and went back to work.
There were other folks there that did the same. Saw no signs, no one there pushing for signatures; just one youngster standing there taking names. Would venture to guess this was the same scene at the other spots where these young folks were collecting signatures.
It troubles me that now a small group of people are going to challenge a petition which over 7,000 people signed.
It would appear that the board and their friends are going to try an end-run around a large number of concerned taxpayers who feel the board should cut back on spending like the rest of us are doing.
What are they afraid of? The answer is, if the question is put to a vote in November, it will be defeated and they know it.
