Wife charged with shooting husband in Glen Ellyn
An overnight shooting in Glen Ellyn that sent one man to the hospital was apparently the result of a domestic dispute, police said Monday.
Glen Ellyn Deputy Chief Bill Holmer said 47-year-old Elona Freda shot her husband in the leg Sunday night after the two argued.
Police arrested Elona Freda Monday afternoon and charged her with aggravated battery with a firearm, a Class 2 felony, and aggravated domestic battery, a Class X felony.
The man was treated and released from Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove.
Police responded to a call of a man being shot on the 100 block of Surrey Drive about 10:15 p.m. Sunday. When they arrived, the 49-year-old husband had suffered a gunshot wound to the leg. The handgun used was registered to him, Holmer said.
Holmer said police conducted interviews throughout the night and into the early afternoon before making the arrest.
Elona Freda is scheduled to appear in bond court at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
If convicted on both charges, she faces up to 37 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
