Volunteers sought to help suicide prevention services
Suicide Prevention Services is seeking hotline volunteers to help reduce and eliminate suicide attempts. Training of new volunteers is scheduled to begin Saturday, May 1, at the SPS office in Batavia.
"Becoming a trained hotline paraprofessional increases listening and communication skills, jump starts a career in social work or simply provides satisfaction from helping others," said Holly Cherry, coordinator of training, explaining the benefits of volunteering.
Training also takes a diverse look at crisis issues and teaches volunteers how to effectively deal with them.
Contact Cherry at (630) 482-9699, ext. 227 to learn more about how you can volunteer to make a difference.
Suicide Prevention Services offers local and nationally networked hotlines, survivor support groups, low-cost depression screenings and other community relations activities throughout the year. For more information, visit spsfv.org.
