Vacant building burns in N. Chicago
North Chicago firefighters spent five hours Saturday fighting a blaze last night in an unoccupied multifamily structure.
The building on the 1000 block of Lincoln was a complete loss, a North Chicago fire department spokesman said Sunday. He said the two-and-a-half story wood frame building had four unoccupied units.
The spokesman said about 10 pieces of equipment from multiple agencies were used to fight the fire.
The call came in at about 5:11 p.m. Saturday. Firefighters arriving on the scene found heavy flames and smoke pouring from the building. They returned from the scene at 10:25 p.m.
A couple of neighboring buildings had heat damage but did not ignite, the spokesman said. One neighboring family self-evacuated, he said.
No firefighters were hurt.
Investigators are on the scene today.
Multiple fire departments responded, including Gurnee, Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, Waukegan and Great Lakes.
