Gilberts Lions Club to host an open house
The Gilberts Lions Club will hold an open house at 6 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the Drift Inn, 77 Railroad St. in Gilberts.
Since the formation of the Gilberts Lions Club in 1980, they have been a service and community-oriented club. Over the years, their various projects have positively impacted the community, which includes building a shelter in Waitcus Park and assisting numerous Gilbert families in obtaining eyeglasses or hearing aids.
Without the assistance from the Lions, these families would not have been able to afford the exams or the eyeglasses and hearing aids.
The Gilberts Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International, which currently has 45,000 clubs in more than 200 countries with more than 1.3 millions members and is the largest service club organization in the world.
Although the Lions accepted Helen Keller's challenge in 1925 and became "Knights of the Blind" and are known for their work with the blind, the Lions are also involved in various health, community, environmental, youth and disaster preparedness and relief programs.
The Lions Clubs consist of a group of service-minded men and women who are interested in improving their communities and share the same core belief worldwide - that the community is what you make it.
