Saturday's Lake County roundup
Lakes perfect at home: Lakes won two games at its own invitational Saturday, defeating Zion-Benton (2-0) and Vernon Hills (2-0) to win the title.
In the first game, Alex Neal and Alyssa Baker scored for the Eagles while goalie Sarah Fitzpatrick got the shutout.
In Game 2, the championship game, Ashley Neubeck opened the scoring for Lakes on an unassisted goal and then Neal scored again, notching her 16th goal of the season.
That goal tied Neal's own school record for goals in a season, which she also shares with teammate Ashley Chernich.
Meanwhile, Fitzpatrick got another shutout, her fifth of the season.
The Eagles went 4-0 over the tournament, which started with pool play on Wednesday.
Grayslake North wins twice: At the Lakes Invite, Grayslake North picked up two wins on Saturday. The Knights, who went 3-1 overall, defeated Richmond-Burton, 5-0 and then Woodstock North, 5-0.
In the first game, senior Alyssa Soulis got right to work, scoring a hat trick in the first 15 minutes. In the second half, Soulis assisted on the Knights' fourth goal, scored by Katarina Leckie.
Grayslake North got its final goal from Jaclyn Brennan.
Meanwhile, sophomore goalie Brooke Sauer rolled up 4 saves in the game.
The Knights didn't waste any time in the second game either.
They scored all five of their goals against Woodstock North in the first 20 minutes of the game.
Soulis scored 2 goals and Megan McHugh, Leckie and Brennan got the others.
Sauer finished with 5 saves to preserve the Knights' eighth shutout of the season.
Carmel 5, Marist 1: Carmel's Lauren Lehman was busy on Saturday. She scored a goal and assisted on two others to lead the Corsairs to victory.
