Fire beats Dynamo 2-0
When John Thorrington and Logan Pause regain their health, Fire central midfielders Baggio Husidic and Peter Lowry probably will return to the bench.
Saturday night they made it clear they won't go willingly.
Husidic and Lowry each scored in the Fire's 2-0 victory against Houston, the club's first Toyota Park win this season.
"Two wins in a row - against Houston, which is a great team - to get this result is a good thing for us because now we're back in the running in the conference for first, trying to get back to the top of the table," Husidic said.
The Fire (2-2-1, 7 points) dominated the first half, outshooting Houston 13-2, but looked like it might go into halftime scoreless.
But in first-half injury time right back Tim Ward cracked a shot that Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad saved. The rebound popped into the air, and Husidic, a Libertyville native, beat two defenders to the header at the 6-yard box for his first MLS goal.
In the 67th minute, right midfielder Patrick Nyarko dribbled to the endline and sent a pass back toward the middle of the goal box. Lowry, just 3 yards from the endline, stuck out his chest and redirected the ball into the net.
"Patrick's been playing really well all season," Lowry said.
"The ball goes out to him. I didn't get forward very much tonight, but I knew he was going to be dangerous. I just made a hard near-post run and he put it in a great spot. I attacked it, and the next thing I know it went in."
