Cops seek man in Carpentersville home invasion, beating

Carpentersville police were searching Friday for a 27-year-old man accused of kicking in the door of his girlfriend's home and beating her.

Authorities issued a warrant for the arrest of LC Rankin, of the 1700 block of West 77th Street, Chicago, who is charged with Class X felony home invasion, misdemeanor battery and two misdemeanor counts of domestic battery.

Carpentersville police Cmdr. Tim Bosshart said Rankin kicked in the door of his girlfriend's residence in the 0-99 block of Oak Crest Drive about midnight on April 17 and began hitting her in the face. The altercation happened after the couple argued earlier that evening at Rankin's mother's house in Calumet City, police said.

During the attack in Carpentersville, Bosshart said, Rankin "broke the phone so (the victim) couldn't call police." She was not seriously hurt, he said.

According to court records, Rankin was convicted of aggravated discharge of a firearm stemming from the May 27, 2006, murder of 20-year-old Dwayne Johnson. Johnson was gunned down by another man in Elgin after a shooting involving Rankin earlier in the day.

Rankin was sentenced to four years in prison, paroled early, but subsequently sent back to prison after being found guilty of an unrelated weapons charge.

Bosshart said anyone with knowledge of Rankin's whereabouts should call police at (847) 551-3481.
