Batavia completes Sycamore sweep
Thursday afternoon in Batavia the Bulldogs baseball team completed a three-game sweep of Sycamore in spectacular fashion, pounding out a 10-0 win in 5 innings.
Nick Beltrano keyed a 7-run third inning with an RBI double. When Anthony Carby tripled two batters later, the rout was on.
"I had a sense through the whole series that we were going to break out," Batavia coach Matt Holm said. "We hit the ball well in all the games, we just hadn't strung them together. We did that today."
Batavia hurler Mickey Walsh took care of the rest, surrendering just 2 hits while striking out 3 to earn his second win of the season, and his first as a starter.
"He's got an incredible number of pitches that he can go to and he can spot every one of them," Holm said.
Batavia saw a little bit of everything over the span of three games.
"We did it all in a single series," Holm said. "This was nice for us, and exactly the kind of experience that we're looking for because it's such a young team."
It started with a 7-6 come-from-behind, extra innings win on Tuesday. The second game of the series saw the Bulldogs hit the ball well in the early innings to take quick lead, then have to hold on for a 4-2 win.
And it culminated in Thursday's offensive explosion.
"That's what we were waiting for," Holm said. "It was nice to see us put it together the way that we did."
After the sweep, the Bulldogs are now 9-7, 7-2 in the Western Sun Conference.
