Ind. man charged in teen's decade-old murder

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- Northern Indiana police have made an arrest in the decade-old unsolved slaying of a Hammond man.

Thirty-four-year-old Dennis J. McIntosh of Gary was charged Monday with murder and two counts of attempted murder in the Jan. 16, 2000, slaying of 19-year-old Marquis Jones.

McIntosh was arrested after a suspect in a California narcotics case contacted local police and provided information on the Hammond man's murder.

Prosecutors allege that McIntosh was the driver of a van that blocked the path of Jones and two friends at a Hammond intersection just before McIntosh opened fire on the three young men.

Jones, who was struck in the head, died several days later. His mother calls the arrest "bittersweet" after a decade of not knowing what happened to her son.
