Arlington Hts. man charged with injuring two Chicago officers

An Arlington Heights man was charged with injuring two Chicago police officers before fleeing the scene early Tuesday, according to Chicago police.

According to police, Michael Cacini, 34, of the 500 block of East Mayfair in Arlington Heights, became combative after being pulled over at 3:15 a.m. in the 100 block of West Elm Street on the city's North side.

"(Cacini) grabbed the vest of one of the officers and began to drive away as he held onto the officer," according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department. "(Cacini) also struck the officer's partner while fleeing from the scene."

One officer shot at Cacini as he drove off, but missed.

Despite the scuffle, Cacini was pulled over and taken into custody. He was charged with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery to a police officer, resisting arrest and possession of cannabis. Cacini will appear in court at 26th and California in Chicago on Wednesday.

Both officers were taken to hospitals for treatment.
