Jesus wouldn't defend indefensible

Q. When is moral relativism acceptable in the Catholic Church? A: When Catholics try to defend the Church's own indefensible acts.

Fence Post writer Elizabeth Weggesser resorts to pointing fingers in every direction while trying to protect bishops from accountability in one of the worst scandals in history.

Why doesn't Weggesser, instead, explain to us why Joseph Ratzinger refused to protect Catholic kids from known child molesters such as Michael Teta and Lawrence Murphy? Why not defend the decision to promote Cardinal Francis George to head the United States Catholic Bishops' Conference after it was revealed he kept Daniel McCormack in parish ministry against the recommendations of his own review board only to allow McCormack to continue abusing students?

It is easier to say, "Stop throwning stones." When Jesus made that command, he was not defending unremorseful, unaccountable and unrepentant sinners. Therefore, the analogy has no place in this discussion.

And as for the prayers Weggesser plans to say for the victims ... I can tell you the survivors I know do not want your prayers. They want you to stop defending the men who ruined their lives and start holding them accountable for their own evil deeds. That is what Jesus would do.
