Brother thinks toters are great for garbage

Following the "garbage system" discussion about changing our Arlington Heights procedure in the 4/2/10 Herald, my brother, a senior citizen in Hoffman Estates, sent me this e-mail:

"We went to the toters option several years ago and we think it's great. As a senior we get a 65-gallon toter as opposed to a 95-gallon (for garbage). Holds three full 13 gal. plastic bags which is more than adequate for the two of us.

"If on occasion we have more we just place a plastic bag next to the toter at no charge for this once per week pick up.

"We also get a 95 gal. toter for recycle - cans, bottles, papers and misc. junk. We pay Groot a fee of $6 per month. Good luck if you change."

It sounds to me that the toters on wheels and once a week option for garbage and recycle would be great for Arlington Heights notably for seniors.
